What is chromosalpingoscopy?
This is a procedure for visualizing the patency of the fallopian tubes during laparoscopy.
- The surgeon inserts an optical device (laparoscope) into the abdominal cavity through a micro-puncture in the navel.
- A sterile contrast solution (stained blue) is introduced through the cervix.
- On the monitor, the doctor observes: if the fluid freely flows from the ends of the tubes into the abdominal cavity — the tubes are patent. If the fluid does not pass — there is a blockage.
Advantages of the method over X-ray (HSG)
Unlike hysterosalpingography (X-ray of the tubes), laparoscopy allows not only to make a diagnosis but also to immediately perform treatment:
- Dissect adhesions (adhesive process) that compress the tube.
- Remove foci of endometriosis.
- Restore tube patency (fimbrioplasty).
- Remove ovarian cysts or fibroids.
Indications for surgery
- Infertility of unknown origin (when tests are normal, but pregnancy does not occur).
- Suspicion of fallopian tube obstruction (after previous inflammations, chlamydia, gonorrhea).
- Endometriosis or suspicion of it.
- Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) — ovarian drilling may be performed to stimulate ovulation.
