Cardiovascular diseases have been the leading cause of mortality in Ukraine for many years. People with cardiovascular pathology need adequate measures for the prevention and treatment of these conditions. Specialists of the cardiology department of our clinic provide specialized care to patients suffering from heart and vascular diseases, both in emergency cases and on a planned basis.

When to contact the Department of Cardiology

You can make an appointment with a cardiologist in our department if you experience one or more of the following symptoms:

  • pain or discomfort behind the sternum or in the left chest, which may radiate to the back, lower jaw, left arm;
  • shortness of breath with minor physical exertion or at rest, worsening in a horizontal position, possibly accompanied by a dry cough that is resistant to treatment with ordinary antitussive and expectorant drugs;
  • dizziness, periodic fainting spells;
  • headaches, tinnitus, flashing “flies” before the eyes, nausea, vomiting in combination with increased blood pressure (more than 140/90 mmHg) or increased pressure without any clinical manifestations;
  • feeling of heart rhythm disturbances, palpitations, regular increase in pulse over 90 beats per minute at rest;
  • swelling in the legs, arms, face, cyanosis of the fingertips, nose, ears.

Many cardiovascular system (CVS) diseases are asymptomatic in their early stages. For timely diagnosis and treatment of such pathology, cardiologists recommend annual medical examinations for people aged 40 and over.

A cardiologist’s consultation is necessary for patients with endocrine pathology, for example, with thyroid problems, as damage to the CVS is often observed when these organs change their function.

Main activities of the Department of Cardiology

Our cardiology department provides diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation for patients with cardiovascular diseases:

  • various forms of IHD: myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, post-infarction state, rhythm disturbances, and others;
  • arterial hypertension;
  • congenital or acquired heart defects;
  • somatoform autonomic dysfunction (SAD);
  • myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle), pericarditis (inflammation of the pericardial sac);
  • dissecting aortic aneurysm;
  • pulmonary embolism;
  • bacterial endocarditis (inflammation of the inner lining of the heart);
  • cardiomyopathies of various forms;
  • acute and chronic heart failure.

The main task of medical personnel when patients are admitted urgently is to prevent the development of serious complications. The successful fulfillment of this task is achieved due to the high professionalism of doctors and nurses who possess all the necessary knowledge and skills in emergency cardiology.

In our department, patients are prepared for various cardiac surgical interventions: heart valve replacement, coronary artery stenting, aortocoronary bypass grafting, pacemaker implantation; and are also monitored after these operations.

An important direction in our work is the systematic development and implementation of new modern methods of diagnosis, therapy, and prevention of cardiovascular diseases. For this purpose, specialists of the cardiology department constantly improve their qualifications, attend training conferences and courses, and successfully pass certification exams.

What diagnostic and treatment methods do we use in the Department of Cardiology

Specialists of the cardiology department use a full range of diagnostic studies to identify cardiovascular pathology of any complexity:

  • Electrocardiography (ECG) — a method for studying the electrical activity of the heart, allows assessing heart rate, myocardial condition, and other important parameters.
  • Heart ultrasound (echocardiography) — a non-invasive examination method using high-frequency sound waves, which helps determine the structure and functional state of heart valves, the thickness and contractility of the myocardium, the nature of blood flow in the heart chambers, and the diameter of large vessels.
  • Transesophageal heart ultrasound — an endoscope with an ultrasound sensor is used, a more informative diagnostic method compared to traditional echocardiography, allowing visualization of thrombi in the atria and infectious endocarditis.
  • Holter ECG monitoring — a special device records ECG for 24 hours or more.
  • 24-hour blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) — a portable device that records blood pressure for 24 hours.
  • Bicycle ergometry, treadmill test — methods that help identify hidden coronary insufficiency using dosed physical exertion.
  • If necessary, all laboratory, radiological, endoscopic, and other methods of patient examination are used.

Specialists of the cardiology department use medicinal and non-medicinal treatment. Each patient receives rational therapy according to established schemes. Modern antiplatelet agents, thrombolytics, antiarrhythmic, hypotensive, and other medicinal products are used. All drugs are prescribed taking into account the form, stage, severity of the disease, in the absence of contraindications in a particular person. The doctor necessarily selects treatment for the outpatient stage.

Among non-medicinal methods, lifestyle correction plays an important role: giving up bad habits, proper nutrition, physical activity, and reducing excess weight. We cooperate with leading specialists in the field of cardiac surgery. This interaction allows timely surgical treatment and reduces the risks of patient disability.
